Moth/Cricket Repairs and Mending
While just about every state has to deal with moth munching problems, Phoenicians get the added joy of cricket crunching damage to our sweaters and knits. Most of these holes can be repaired cheaply and with good results, using just regular thread and a WE CARE attitude. Prices start at $5.75 for a small hole. Larger holes cost a mite more. We need to see it first before we can give you an exact estimate.
We do NOT reknit or reweave. We can, however, tell you whether we think the repair will look almost as good as new, or be very noticeable, or be somewhere in between.
And we only repair holes in sweaters and other knits. The best we can do for holes in men's or women's suits is to patch the hole, if it is in an inconspicuous place. If the hole is in a noticeable part of the suit, you should have the hole rewoven.
Mending is a very useful service which we offer our customers. Just about any item or garment can be mended, and it's usually inexpensive, but it depends on the item.
For instance, jeans or aprons or smocks can have small holes patched, starting at $4.75 and up, depending on the size. This is almost always a better alternative than throwing the item away.
We also mend or replace zippers. Replacing a zipper is almost always an option, while mending one depends on whether or not any teeth are missing. If some of the teeth are missing, or if the bottom part where the slide rests when the zipper is open is missing, we cannot fix that, all we can do is replace the zipper.
If the slide is missing, or if it's just not working right, that can usually be repaired rather than putting in a whole new zipper.
Keep in mind, however, that we are limited to using whatever is available on the after market, and when it comes to zippers, we cannot always find a perfect match for replacement. You will always have the final say before we put in a zipper that is a mite different from the original.
A great example is the Juicy line. Juicy has that J that dangles from their zippers, and it cannot be taken off and added to a new zipper. No Juicy zippers are available for sale on the after market, and Juicy itself will NOT allow anyone to buy replacement zippers from them. We know this for a fact because we've tried their corporate headquarters and one of their local retail stores.
For any moth hole, mending or zipper problems, you can bring those in any time, you don't need an appointment. And usually whoever is working the counter can help you with an estimate. If it's a little complicated, you can leave the garment with us for a call back after Sylvia or Lou has had a chance to look at it.
